While watching Maneesh Sharma’s last directorial Ladies VS Ricky Bahl and his debut Band Baaja Baarat, I thought his unique quality was in the way he executed the respective subjects. Sadly in this one, his subject and execution are out and out boring.

The story is on the subject of what say today’s youngsters have on “Love” and “Commitment” in their respective relationships. Raghu, played by Sushant Singh Rajput, works as a tour guide. He believes in attraction, but not in the system of marriage. Gayatri (Parineeti Chopra) has a mindset of live–in relationships rather than marriages. Tara, played by debutant Vaani Kapoor, wants to get married and be settled. Rishi Kapoor, a father figure for Raghu, plays Tauji. Raghu, moonlights as a fake baarati for Rishi.

The movie is about the confusion between love, attraction, and commitment.

The reason this movie is dull lies in the screenplay by Jaideep Sahni and the repetitive instances between the characters; to take a call on the relationships post the intermission point- The break up of the characters and coming back together through situations was the primary reason it was boring. The dialogues should usually make people laugh. But here they fail to.

Shuddh Desi Romance is just a tad watchable thanks only to the acting and songs. Rishi Kapoor is impeccable as Tauji. His timing and dialogue delivery is very good. Vaani Kapoor makes a confident debut as Tara. She has acted convincingly. Parineeti Chopra as Gayatri is also excellent. The songs have a modern feel to them.

Maneesh Sharma presents a different take on the love story in the first half. In the later half, he seems to be confused while developing the movie.  His scenes are monotonous and slow down the pace considerably. Editing by Namrata Rao is not up to the mark.

Considering that it is a Yash Raj Films production, I was highly disappointed because they are known as a company that brings very different and entertaining movies. Well, avoid this one!
