Yash Raj Films has always invested in new talent for actors. Their new effort, what they term as Y- Films, focuses on bringing fresh talent to the industry. The Director Ashima Chibber, an assistant director earlier, has made her first attempt in taking the director’s chair. There are also some people in the unit that are have done work for other films.

Set in Chandigarh, Punjab, Mere Dad Ki Maruti is a fun-filled ride about the father-son relationship. The dad (Tej Khullar), played by Ram Kapoor, is about to gift his daughter and soon to be son- in- law a Maruti Ertiga. The reason: A typical Punjabi wedding. His college-going son (Sameer Khullar), played by Saquib Saleem, wants a car for himself. Jasleen aka Jazzleen happens to meet Sameer and begins dating him. One day Sameer loses the car! He takes help of his friend Gattu, played by Prabal Punjabi, and Jasleen, oh sorry, Jazzleen, to get the car back.

I have to say, that I usually do not enjoy loud movies and over-the-top movies, but I enjoyed this one to the fullest. That is because of the novel script and the dialogues. Ashima Chibber does a commendable job in bringing out the flavor of Chandigarh. The dialogues are exceptionally matched with the timing of the actors. Even though some people working on the film are new, technically it is of superb quality. The job of the editor is worth mentioning at no point does the film feel boring. There are a few songs that weren’t really required. But, in spite of them the film is short and crisp.

This film is one that will keep a smile on your face long after you have watched it. Highly Recommended!
