Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation is the third film in the Hotel Transylvania series. The producers, Sony Pictures Animation take the premise of the vampire family out of the Hotel and on a Cruise. If you remember the previous two films, Mavis, voiced by Selena Gomez is the vampire daughter of Count Dracula (Adam Sandler).

In this one, Cont Dracula is exhausted from working hard & running the Hotel. Hence, Mavis plans a holiday as a stress buster for her father. The entire movie after the first 10 minutes is on the Cruise.

The movie follows the adventures of the family & the dynamics between them especially Cont Dracula & Ericka, the captain of the Cruise Ship.

If you have watched the first two & enjoyed them, then this movie is a good follow-up. Director Genndy Tartakovsky who had also made the previous two has managed to make a distinctly different film. The humour and tone in this film keeps the audience interested.

Animated films these days have become a staple for the Summer Holidays in the USA. Every studio such as Sony Pictures Animation, Illumination Entertainment or the behemoth, Disney want to cash-in the “Summer Blockbuster” season. Everyone wants to eat a portion of the pie and it has become competitive. Being an outlier in the pie is the need of the hour. Is Hotel Transylvania 3:Summer Vacation, the outlier of these first 6 months? I would say, yes. I wanted to watch a good & entertaining animated film after the slog called Incredibles 2 , just a few weeks ago.

This film is crisp & humorous. But 3D just does not have an impact when a film isn’t filmed in 3D.  It is merely a marketing gimmick & to have premium ticket prices. Is it a stress busting, relaxed evening at the Cinema? Yes. Go watch this one in the normal 2D format if you have watched and enjoyed the previous two, if not, wait for it to come on iTunes as a rental.
